Title Large antique ornate sculpted charger with gilt highlights 19th century Berlin Lauchhammer original |
|
Description
Large antique ornate sculpted charger with gilt highlights 19th century Berlin Lauchhammer original.
Cast and signed by the Lauchhammer foundry in berlin in the late 19th century this display platter could easily be mistaken for bronze but in fact was made of the much rarer and much harder to produce material of cast iron. the jewell like quality of this example with its mercurial gilt ormolu highlights adds to the luxury of this gorgeous design.
19th century foundries tried to perfect casting of extremely high quality iron decorative items and those foundries in Berlin certainly succeded. Buderus foundry still makes superb quality castings and is known for their extreley delicate antique jewellery etc.
