Antique Dutch marquetry chest of drawers with inlaid column front in the neoclassical manner , Dutch late 18th century . The body with ornate floral marquetry inlay. A single drawer under the top with 5 more drawers underneath flanked by full columns with bronze capitals and bases. The whole raised on elegant tapering legs. A rare small size this chest was probably bespoke made in the early 1800's as a collectors cabinet or specimen chest. It might also have been an apprentice piece . No doubt this apprentice graduated with full honours to master cabinet maker on the merits of this superb chest. The height of 68cm makes it ideal as a bedside chest.

Original antique Swedish 18th century pine and iron bound chest with working lock and key dated 1761.
Rare to find outside of Sweden and uUsually given to the newly wedded couple this marriage chest has the year of 1761 cut into the ornate iron bindings. Made from only three pieces of pine the top is cut from one large pine slab and carved hollow on the inside. The side walls are made from a single piece of pine steamed into shape then fastened and stitched together . Despite it's heavy looks this is actually quite a protable trunk with iron rings on either side and a wrought iron top handle. 10.2kg Perfect for documents and finery the original lock and key still work.

Antique Empire tallboy chest of six drawers with vertical flame mahogany veneers all book matched on a solid oak carcase. The top frieze drawer with moulded front and central ormolu cartouch bronze escutcheons. Key supplied with top drawer. It is hard to find a nice faded original finish patina chest with such good and desirable colour. All drawers have been serviced and run very smooth as silk, as you should expect from Antiques and Design Online, despite their heavy oak construction. An unusual feature is that the middle four drawers are bow fronted and flanked by full turned mahogany columns with mercuial gilt bronce ormolu mounted captial sna bases. This matches the ornate ormolu wreath that surrounds the bronze keyholes. Alll locks and keys have been serviced and work very smoothly. The whole raised on shaped plinth feet.

Key supplied with top drawer works smoothly. It is hard to find a nicely faded French walnut chest with such good and desirable colour. All drawers have been serviced and run very smoothly, as you should expect from Antiques Design. Nice quality solid walnut top is also chamfered at the corners to match the case shape. A Danish Rococo commode in walnut with gilded carved ornamentation in the manner of the 18th century master cabinet maker to the royal court of Denmark Mathias Ortmann (1700-1757). The solid wooden and highly figurative veneered walnut bombe shape body with three drawers and gilt bronze mounts . Each drawer with ormolu handles escutcheons and locks, complete with working key. The shape and application of highly figurative Italian walnut veneers is typical of the typical Ortmann style of first half of the 18th century. Marquetry and well shaped curves and in excellent condition. It is completely hand made even down to the dovetailed drawers, possibly to replicate an existing 18th century original to match.

Description A Scandinavian solid oak chest of drawers of the late Gustavian period circa 1780. The oak chest is made in three sections in the Campaign style for easy carrying up those narrow 18th century stone staircases.
The top section with a deep top drawer adorned by roundels is opened in the traditional manner with a push pull key to working lock with ornate gilt wreath escutcheon. Two futher drawers below are fitted with bronze handles. This section lifts off the two lower drawers section which in turn lifts off the plinth base with is ornate carved oak cabriole legs. The main drawers are flanked by turned column with bronze corinthian capitals and bases. Ornate gilt bronze carry handles to the sides.
All drawers open very smoothly as all runners and glides have been replaced/serviced to ensure many decades of trouble free usage. This is an impressive heavy solid oak piece piece of late 18th century furniture

Each drawer with carved front decoration and nice and clean blonde oak interior. This gorgeous chest of drawers has been fully restored a decade or two ago. The body of the chest is in solid oak and has been stained with an organic walnut pigment stain known as Brunswick Brown which is made from charred and powdered walnut shells. The left side has been exposed to sunlight and has faded a little bit. This gives the chest a wonderful warm patina.
Rich waxed patina finish and of course all drawers open very very smoothly as drawer runners and glides have been serviced/replaced where needed to maintain ease of use for many more decades. All have working locks and an ornate key supplied .

The panel front chest of four drawers with original ornate brass key hole escutcheons and brass tear drop handles. Several drawers are stamped by master resorers and antique dealer Muirhead Moffat and Co Glasgow. This is an original English oak 17th century chest of four drawers. It has been restored in the early 1900's by Muirhead Moffat and co and enhanced with ornate harewood and boxwood marquetry and has been stamped by the restorers as a sign of guaranteed craftsmanship. It also bears teh BADA seal of authenticity.
Original furniture of the period is highly valued and much sought after. The finish is the original wax polish that has attained a gorgeous warm lustre and patina with years of care.

Description Gorgeous apprentice chest of 4 drawers in solid oak raised on carved cabriole legs in the 18th century manner. An apprentice chest was a unique piece of furniture made by the budding cabine maker before he was allowed to become a member of the Guild of cabinet makers. Of Austrian origin, this lovely example combines baroque and rococo elements all executed in solid oak. The gorgeous high quality original gilt bronze handles and escutcheons accentuate the rococo design of this chest. As apprentice pieces were usually of a smaller scale, the maker was examined by the Guild not just in the overall design aesthetics but also the precise ability of the cabinet maker execution with choice of timber type, woodgrain and of course construction techniques. This small chest could easily be scaled up in size and dimensions. Ideal use as a hallway console or even as a bedside cabinet.
Chests of these dimensions did not exist in the 18th century hence this bespoke made 1850's piece in the rococo manner..

This small chest has very good original patina with a lovely rich colour to the mahogany. Some minor professional repairswere done to top drawer veneered front. Drawer interiors are clean in golden fruitwood. The smaller size makes it ideal for modern bedroom use or as hallway console. A rarity is that this chest retains its original wrought iron lock and original working key . Still retains its original ornate wrought iron corner clasps and other iron hardware. The interior features the ornate iron hinges and duck egg blue finish. There are two vintage 1950's lift out boxes inside for easier packing. The original trunk with large wrought iron carry handles to each end. Trunks such as these are usually referred to a Wedding boxes. The initials of the bride and groom on one side and the year of their marriage 1816 on the other. the chests would contain the precious family linen and other finery that every respectable family would treasure....hence treasure chest. "The Figdor Commode " late 16th early 17th Century . This genuine walnut chest of 3 drawers comes from the well-documented collection of Dr. Albert Figdor. The well carved paw feet supports a solid walnut chest with three ornate acanthus carved front walnut drawers. Walnut was a luxury timber in Europe at this time until 18th century shipping made it possible to import mahogany logs from the Americas. The fine workmanship and excellent original condition retaining its original Patina are all value points that Dr. Figdor built his famous collection around. The lift top document space retains its original hand forged hinges and lock. A working key is also supplied
Dr. Figdor was an influential international banker based in Vienna during the turn of the 1900's. He established a vast collection of early European antiques dating from the 15th century up to the 18th century. His intention was to bequeath his collection to the city of Vienna, in order to establish a core collection for the newly built Vienna Applied Arts Museum. Although there appears some confusion as to why the necessary paperwork was never processed, the collection was dispursed by three public auction, plus addenda, in Berlin in 1930. Period catalogues of the time are highly sought after reference material as they provide not only descriptions but also photos of most items. This chest still retains its original auction warehouse house label. With such excellent provenance (another value point) the rarity of any Figdor collection pieces reaching the market is impossibly scarce and provides an excellent investment opportunity. This commode was purchased was purchased at the original auction of the collection in 1930, by an very influential family residing in Canberra, Australia, and has been in their possession until now. We are very proud to be able to offer this fine piece of 400 year old history to the connoisseur.

Large antique 5 drawer late 18th century Louis XVI commode chest of drawers in solid oak.. The gorgeous original patina to the solid oak rectangular body fitted with frieze drawer below dentilled mouldings and four drawers with moulded fronts. Each drawer with ornate solid bronze handles and matching escutcheons. Original locks to drawers. Superb quality patina and very desirable rare blonde oak finish. Raised on fluted and tapering legs traditional to 18th century French Louis XVI furniture. The ornate architectural details include turned column corcers with brass capitals and bases and dentilled mouldings. The chest is made in two sections so as to be easily relocated up and down those narrow Parisienne stairways. All drawers open very smoothly.

Description Northern European Empire or Biedermeier tallboy chest with carved acanthus scroll corinthian columns. The facade with beautiful book matched flame mahogany front. The top drawer of full width over a pair of half columns flanking 5 more drawers. There is also a full width drawer fitted to the plinth. All have brass escutcheons and working locks . Steel key supplied. In excellent original order ...a value point! The very top with an unusual curvedfront raised platform top for that special statue candelabra or clock. All drawers open very smoothly and all locks have been serviced and work well. The simplicity of design requires push and pull of the key to open and close the drawers in the traditional Empire manner.

"The Figdor Commode " late 16th early 17th Century . This genuine walnut chest of drawers comes from the well-documented collection of Dr. Albert Figdor. The well carved paw feet supports a solid walnut carcase with three carved front walnut drawers. Walnut was a luxury timber at this time until shipping made it possible to import Mahogany logs. The fine workmanship and excellent original condition retaining its original Patina are all value points that Dr. Figdor built his famous collection around. The lift top document space retains its original hand forged hinges and lock.
Dr. Figdor was an influential international banker based in Vienna during the turn of the 1900's. He established a vast collection of early European antiques dating from the 15th century up to the 18th century. His intention was to bequeath his collection to the city of Vienna, in order to establish a core collection for the newly built Vienna Applied Arts Museum. Although there appears some confusion as to why the necessary paperwork was never processed, the collection was dispursed by three public auction, plus addenda, in Berlin in 1930. Period catalogues of the time are highly sought after reference material as they provide not only descriptions but also photos of most items. This chest still retains its original auction warehouse house label. With such excellent provenance (another value point) the rarity of any Figdor collection pieces reaching the market is impossibly scarce and provides an excellent investment opportunity. This commode was purchased was purchased at the original auction of the collection in 1930, by an very influential family now residing in Canberra, Australia, and has been in their possession until now. We are very proud to be able to offer this fine piece of 400 year old history to the connoisseur. Inspection is available.

Swedish antique style chest of three drawers in the late Gustavian manner. The mahogany body with fluted corner pilasters raised on elegant tapering legs with ormolu mounts and brass sabot feet. Complete with original brass ring pull handles brass, escutcheons, brass key and working locks. The drawer fronts veneered in vertical mahogany matching the sides of this gorgeous chest. Original Swedish 1800's Gustavian pieces are hard to find outside Sweden and are very popular with the design trend for Scandinavian simplicity. This elegant chest is of the early revival period of Gustavian style and dates from around 1950. The top has had a clock set sitting on the surface which shows up in the flash photography more than in reality hence the 3 slightly darker circles. Overall good original condition and polished finish. All drawers open very smoothly. The whole raised on four elegant carved and tapering legs. Ideal as a bedside chest or even as a hallway console table due to its narrow depth of only 41cm .

Rare original late Empire very early Biedermeier period blonde chest of three drawers. The drawers each with original working locks and gilt ormolu escutcheons and key. The middle drawer with a recessed demilune facia and the bottom drawer with ebony molding top matching the top and base mouldings. All drawer front surfaces with vertical veneers of highly figurative blonde mahogany and each with a fully functioning steel locks. A key is also supplied. All oak drawer runners and glides have been well serviced so they open very smoothly. Period Empire raised on elegant rounded and tapering legs back and front with ebony banding. The centre of the skirt with an oval inlaid cartouche featuring applied ormolu on an ebonised field. Early 19th century Empire period furniture is very rare indeed and this one is completely original and of an unusually and practical size that lends itself to many uses: hallway console , bedroom or bedside chest and especially for the formal lounge room.

This cute set of four drawers with shaped front and mouldings. Original loacks but no key. The chest is raised on four carved cabriole legs that are nicely shaped to focus towards the front. Minor veneer repolishes to sides but when against a bed this is negligible. The small size is most desirable and may have been internded as a miniature chest for a childs room.

cm a good satin birch chest of drawers , Danish Empire 1820's original. Four shaped drawers with book matched satin birch fronts, flanked by stylised ebony painted 1/4 columns and raised on ebonised plinth feet. Each drawer is opened by a key , as was traditional to the period and each drawer still retains its original working steel locks and a shilled shaped escutcheon in blackened steel. The granite or marble (looks just like porphyry) slab finishes this piece of nicely. As it is nearly 200 years old some wear is to be expected along with a few tiny repairs to the gorgeous original hand cut veneers. The drawers operate smoothly, as do the locks. One original key supplied.

The Morison furniture company started in Ayr in Scotland in 1808. Morison and Co became one of the leading cabinet makers in Scotland with branches in Glasgow and Manchester. The superb quality of this chest is highly sought after. The top with original pierced brass gallery. The serpentine front drawers in solid mahogany with highly figurative satinwood facia and ornate bronze handles. The front edges with Chippendale fretwork columns. Description Rare antique blonde satin or tiger birch chest of 4 drawers with gilt Empire bronze ormolu escutcheons Swedish Karl Johan 1825
Fully restored and lovingly french polished. The stepped top over a canted corner edge moulding with a flat front top drawer. This opens with a key through the ornate Empire gilt bronze escutcheon to original steel lock. Inside this top drawer are three further jewellery or cufflink drawers.
Three more straight front drawers below all with matching gilt bronze Empire wreath shaped escutcheons open in the traditional key push pull method for minimalist aesthetic design. All drawers run very smoothly as drawer runners have been serviced and replaced where needed for many years of smooth operation.
The solid base plinth with taper legs all in solid birch. It is quite rare to see this gorgeous flame blonde birch timber used to such gorgeous effect. Marshall of the Empire Jean Bernadotte was elected as heir-presumptive to the childless King Charles XIII of Sweden. He was crowned in Stockholm as king Karl Johan 1818-1844.
