Antique French Empire dish shaped ceiling light chandelier with 6 sconce candle arms electric globe holders. French Empire chandelier in the neoclassic Roman manner . The large dish shaped centre in patinated matt black bronze with six original candle arms extending from the outer rim. Original ornate chain leads up to a star mounted crown. This crown is suspended from a single chain to the desired height to the ceiling. The arms afor romantic candle light whilst the globe fittings are hidden inside the actual dish shape body so as to throw indirect light onto the ceiling hence lighting by reflection- genius! In the French Empire Napoleonic manner this style has been popular in Europe for many generations. This example is made from solid cast brass.

French Empire Napoleon III period ( 1848-1870) with later electrification.

Antique 18th century original heavy solid polished brass chandelier with 8 cast solid brass arms. Each with cast solid scroll supports and heavy turned brass candle holders. Above these are a further eight cast brass arms with burnished refectors. Each arm is individually numbered and matched to a precise dovetail mount in the solid frame. The chandelier has not been electrified and works on candle power for a more romantic mood. A three link original suspension chain in brass is included. Originally this would have been attached to a cord and pulley to allow replacement of candles by lowering the chandelier.
The main body of solid brass turned bulbous shape. Baroque examples of this type were usually used in large banquetting halls and are very hard to obtain.

Antique Gustavian Swedish chandelier with gilt bronze frame. The cascading ornate crown with ormolu and with original crystal drops. Crystal chains trail down to a gilt bronze hoop with a second outer hoop from which eminate eight Gustavian candle arms and crystal drops. A lower crystal icicle cascades connects all the hoops and has a central candle sconce with acorn finial in ormolu. This extremely rare example still maintains its original cut glass crystals - a value point. It has not been wired but could easily be adapted for electricity with the lamp hoders placed inside the main hoop so as to refract the electric lighting as with all proper electric conversions Made for original candle power. This wonderful chandelier has a highly decorated frame in gold gilt ormolu with ormolu arms and gilt candle cups for real wax candles. The wiring for electric lights is installed, as it should be, wih fittings hidden inside the ormolu frame so as to refract the light through the crystals whilst allowing for real candles in the tradition manner in the extended arms. In excellent condition this chandelier has all its original cut crystal iciles and all but one chain of crystals. These are of course available on line. The ceiling chain and cup allows the overall height to be 90 cm but may be reduced or lengthened by the chain.

An elegant flared shaped facette cut crown over the main body with five ornate scroll shaped arms below with suspended oak leaf cut cabouchon crystals. Further trails of graduated size crystals join the arms and there is plenty of space for more. A basket shaped base is suspended below a single light globe holder that allows difused light through the crystals . The header buttons or rozettes mounted in the traditional manner with brass wire loops to allow more crystals to be hooked on if required. .

Very rare antique French gilt bronze Chandelier circa 1850 original gold gilt ormolu 15 candle holders with wax drop trays and cut crystals icicles. The gilt ormolu with extremely high quality casting and chase work all in excellent condition featuring angels and putti with acanthus scrollwork and crowns etc. There are two tiers of candle holder arms in the most amazing intricate scrollwork all joined by a central rod and terninating in a large gilt acorn finial at base.
This extremely rare example still maintains its original gilt finish - a value point. It has been wired previously for electricity but these old clumsy fittings have been removed retunring this light to its former grace and elegance for original candle light. It is very easy to have this chandelier rewired for electric light and I would recommend it be done properly to allow for the candle sconces to be used for wax candles in the traditional manner. The ornate skeleton frame allows for many ways to electrify this with small discretly hidden halogen or LED globes so as not to spoil the magnificance of this rare treasure. Very rare antique Gustavian Swedish chandelier with mercurial gilt bronze frame. The cascading ornate crown with lunate ormolu skirt with original crystal drops. Crystal chains trail down to a gilt bronze hoop with a second outer hoop from which eminate four Gustavian candle arms and crystal drops. A lower basket connects all the drops and has a central candle sconce with acorn finial in ormolu. This extremely rare example still maintains its original cut glass crystals - a value point. It has been wired for low voltage oscillating "Drottningholm candles". This is easy to revert to original candle power.

Very rare PAIR of Italian neoclassical chandeliers. The antique hand wrought iron and gilt brass a frame is mounted by original eight lead counter weighted candle sconces. The hand cut antique glass crystals appear to be the original and are all of the period, first 1/4 of the 19th century or earlier. The grand scale of these chandeliers is indicative of a high ceiling house of the nobility. The crown is fitted with shaped and embossed "feathers" that emminate from it. Priced as per pair only...shame to split them as they have survived for such a long time together. These genuine antique chandeliers are original candle power. If you want to electrify them they should only ever have the electic lights hidden inside the brass main frame so as not to distract from the original beauty of the chandelier form and retain the ability to use romantic candle lights. The bonus of such a fitting is that all the electric lights will reflect and sparkle through the gorgeous hand cut cystals.
Of note: with the launch of the "Da Vinci Code" a mysterious chandelier from St Peter's Catherdral, Vatican in ROME was hung in Borders Books store in London. The online Auctioneer Lucknows sold it for a reported 12,500 GBP in October 2005.

The circular crown adorned with pierced decoration and luxurious blue cabuchone mounts. Original ornate chain suspends the chandelier the from the top crown that has a large brass ring above. The chandelier would have been raised and lowered from this ring by a long rope or chain to light the candles in the chandelier. Your chain from the ceiling could then be taylored to your required length. The later electric globe holders use standard small bayonette globes.
